In my 40 years of practicing Law, one legal maxim which I experienced in practicality would be the maxim “Justice delayed is justice denied”. It means that if legal redress or equitable relief to an injured party is available, but is not forthcoming in a timely fashion, it is effectively the same as having no remedy at all.
One of my favorite quotes concerning law would be from John Locke, the father of Liberalism. He expresses “The end of law is not to abolish or restrain, but to preserve and enlarge freedom. For in all the states of created beings capable of law, where there is no law, there is no freedom.”
